The Spirit of St. Francis Xavier Reaches India Again
Paul Barnes, Hanley Donofrio, Viviana Laines, Russell Lofters, Collette Elizabeth O’Brien, Nicholas Rosado and Morgan Shahi will receive the sacrament of the Confirmation this Sunday May 27 at 5:00 pm.
As part of their preparation for the sacramental they, and their catechists Paul Kelly and Gilbert Ong, have been taken on several community service projects, the most significant one of which is their commitment to help the newly formed The India Group (TIG) at the Church of St. Francis Xavier, which was formed to help address various needs of the people in India.
By far one of the most pressing problems in India is the devastating impact of illiteracy and access to adequate education. Therefore, the seven Confirmation Candidates at St. Francis Xavier have decided to sponsor the education of seven children who have a sincere desire to learn but whose families can not afford to send them to school. The students have committed to raising $7,000, which will be given directly to two schools to cover the tuition, books, uniforms, transportation, test fees and private tutoring for all seven children for more than three years, which should give them a significant head start there quest for literacy and learning. By educating even one child in a family we not only impact that child’s life but this can have positive effects on a family for generations to come.
