An Invitation
Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) invites women and men to baptism in the Catholic church, and all baptized Christians seeking confirmation and full communion as Catholics. The RCIA starts on the first week of October 2012. Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist will be celebrated at the Easter Vigil 2013.
The RCIA process is designed for those adults who are:
- Unbaptized
- Catholics who would like to learn more about their faith
- Baptized in another tradition
- Baptized Catholic, but with no further religious training or sacraments
The Unbaptized and Catholics who would like to learn more about their faith come together on Sundays from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM after the 11:30 AM Mass in the West Room of the Parish Office, to learn about the scriptures and the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, and at the same time, to discover where God is present in their lives. The sessions for Unbaptized and Catholics who would like to learn more about their faith starts on Sunday October 7, 2012.
The Baptized in another tradition and the Baptized Catholic with a need to receive the sacrament of the Eucharist and/or Confirmation must fulfill the eight sessions listed below.
They will also join the Unbaptized during Lent. This means that during Lent the Baptized and the Unbaptized will attend together the 11:30 Mass on Sundays, the sessions after Mass from 1pm-3pm in the West Room, a retreat held traditionally on Palm Sunday from 1pm-5pm and a ceremony in St. Patrick Cathedral.
The sessions listed below will be repeated, so that if you miss one or two, you may use the repeat to fulfill the eight session requirement. The schedule of these sessions TBD.
THESE SESSIONS ARE ONLY FOR BAPTIZED IN ANOTHER TRADITION OR BAPTIZED CATHOLIC WITH A NEED TO RECEIVE THE SACRAMENT OF THE EUCHARIST AND/OR CONFIRMATION.
Session 1: Baptism: what happened there and how have you lived it?
Session 2: Confessing our faults and sharing the Lord’s Supper (Mass).
Session 3: Confirmation: does it add anything to your life?
Session 4: The Bible: a privileged way to engage Jesus Christ?
Session 5: The Creed: knowing what you believe?
Session 6: Sacraments and prayer: why we do the things we do?
Session 7: A Catholic moral code.
